The medical world is one of diversity, where passion for learning and helping others unite.
It is this deep-seated passion for the academic world and a burning desire to help people, which has led Dr Peichee Wung, a Specialist Physician, on a lifelong journey in the medical world.
As a Specialist Physician, with her focus on Internal Medicine, Dr Wung has recently joined forces with Mediclinic Newcastle and opened her own private practice in Newcastle.
Internal Medicine is the medical speciality dealing which deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specialising in internal medicine are skilled in the management of patients who have undifferentiated or multi-system disease processes.
They also care for hospitalised and ambulatory patients and may play a major role in teaching and research. As internal medicine patients are often seriously ill or require complex investigations, specialist physicians do much of their work in hospitals.
Spending much of her school years in Taiwan, before moving to South Africa where she completed her education. Dr Wung explains that she knew from a young age what she was meant to be.
“This is a passion for me, and I want to help people. I saw a lot of sick people when I was younger, and I knew then that I wanted to help them.”
Qualifying in Bloemfontein, Dr Wung explains that she immersed herself in the academic sector of her work. Striving to find solutions to medical issues, while helping people in the public sector.
Through her dedication, Dr Wung now sports a Bachelor of Science Degree, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees, Master of Medicine degrees, while also holding Fellowship of the College of Physicians of South Africa.
“I eventually needed a change and was considering going back to Taiwan, when the opportunity to come to Newcastle arrived. I have never had a private practice before and working in the private sector seemed like the challenge that I needed,” she smiled.
Moving to Newcastle, Dr Wung finds herself not only adjusting to her new environment; but also providing quality health care to Newcastillians.
With her practice situated at 16 Hospital Street and working alongside the Mediclinic Newcastle team, Dr Wung aims to not only provide the best medical care; but to also bring a certain of academia to Newcastle in her quest to promote quality healthcare.
