Specialised Nursing Units

The hospital has a 24 hour Emergency Centre, Endoscopy Unit, Heart-Lung and Vascular Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care, Maternity Ward and a Theatre Complex with ten general theatres, one hybrid theatre, three cardiac catheterisation laboratories and two open heart theatres. In addition to the general wards, the hospital also offers the necessary intensive and high care beds.

Firsts at Mediclinic Panorama

In October 2010 the first Trans-aortic valve replacement surgery (TAVI) was performed at Mediclinic Panorama.

In 2011 an electrophysiology laboratory (EP lab) was first used for the treatment of heart rhythm disturbances at the hospital and to date more than 300 cryo ablation procedures have been performed in the EP lab. Click here to see the 300th cryo ablation procedure done in the EP lab.)

In 2014 a very rare Ex Utero Intrapartum Treatment Procedure (EXIT procedure) before birth was performed. Click here for "Baby Nel" to see videos of the surgery and its aftermath.

Since 2014 fetoscopic laser treatment for twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) was introduced at the hospital.

Since 2015 ground breaking Lung Volume Reduction Coil procedures have been performed at the hospital, bringing relief to those suffering from emphysema. Click here to see a video of Dr Theron and the first patient talking about this procedure.
