Adult Intensive Care Units (ICU) and Critical Care Units
Our adult ICUs’ and critical care units are highly specialised facilities with state-of-the-art equipment. These units are staffed by highly trained nursing personnel and supported by highly skilled medical specialists and associated professionals in private practice.
Crisis Intervention Centre
This centre is run by qualified doctors and registered nurses, and is operational 24-hrs a day. Skilled personnel are able to deal with victims of rape and child abuse, assault and domestic violence. The centre offers a confidential, empathetic examination involving the collection of specimens for forensic evidence, treatment, shower facilities and a clean change of clothing. We have an efficient network of support services that offer counselling to all victims.
Emergency Centre
The 24-hr emergency centre is constantly manned by experienced medical doctors and registered nurses. We make use of the international triage system and each patient will be triaged and seen by the doctor accordingly.
Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit
Mediclinic Sandton is a leader in providing quality care to critically ill newborn babies and older children. The unit is equipped to treat all forms of neonatal surgical and medical pathology. Mediclinic Sandton is associated with the infertility unit Medfem and many of the newborn babies admitted are extremely premature. For older children, the ICU manages medical and surgical problems, including near drowning, poisonings, respiratory problems, neurosurgical cases, polytrauma, and renal failure.
Orthopaedic Unit
The unit has a six-bed high care unit. Major specialties include arthroplasty, hip, knee and shoulder replacements and specialised upper limb surgery. The unit is coupled with a dedicated physiotherapy department.
Theatre Suites
The theatre suite, designed to accommodate various surgical disciplines, including one which is specially equipped for urology and a caesarean theatre with IVF facilities. The orthopaedic, neurosurgery and endo-urology theatres were recently refurbished according to international standards.
