Youth Day is a monumental day in our country and offers the opportunity to assess ourselves and understand where we are in terms of fostering an environment for future leaders.
Mediclinic Southern Africa CEO, Greg van Wyk shares his thoughts on the value of youth within our country and organisation.
Are we dictating a future for them or are they helping us define that future together?
South Africa’s youth have always played a significant role in shaping necessary change, and our country still needs this important ‘swing vote’ in catalysing change. This is true for our organisation as well.
Mediclinic recently launched the Young Talent Series, an internal initiative to acknowledge and shine a spotlight on young leaders in the organisation who have a passion for delivering quality care, are performance driven and live our values. The ones not only driving their own careers but also improving their units, departments and teams.
Our Young Talent also represent our clients, the digitised future of our country, as well as the drive and passion for learning that we need to instil across our business. It is not just about recognising the individual who is driving change – but more about giving them a space to grow, a space to influence others and a space to network, build and grow ideas.
Being adaptive in our leadership style is essential; therefore, creating an environment that encourages psychological safety for all means that all opinions, input, and ideas are welcome and embraced.
May we always remember that we all have something to learn and teach each other.
