Registration
- Mediclinic (Pty) Ltd is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training until 31 December 2025 as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997. Registration certificate number: 2008 HE07/006
- The Diploma in Emergency Medical care is accredited by the Council on Higher Education, the Health Professions Council of South Africa and registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
- The Diploma in Nursing is accredited by the Council on Higher Education, South African Nursing Council and registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
- The Higher Certificate in Nursing is accredited by the Council on Higher Education, South African Nursing Council and registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
- The Higher Certificate in Diagnostic & Procedural Coding is accredited by the Council on Higher Education, South African Nursing Council and registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
- The Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care is accredited by the Council on Higher Education, the Health Professions Council of South Africa and registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training.

Programmes
Diploma and Certificate Level Qualifications
Diploma and Certificate level qualifications are industry specific qualifications that allow students to enter the healthcare profession.
A Diploma level qualification will allow you to work in a particular field. The duration of diploma level qualifications is usually 2 - 3 years.
A qualification in a Higher Certificate level programme will enable you to enrol for a higher level qualification, for example an advanced certificate or diploma course in the same field of study. The duration of a Higher Certificate level qualification is 1 year.
Mediclinic offers to following programnmes that lead to certificate or diploma level qualifications:
- Diploma in Emergency Medical Care
- Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care
- Diploma in Nursing
- Higher Certificate in Nursing
- Higher Certificate in Procedural and Diagnostic Coding
It is recommended that you use the following process to select a program:
- Review the course brochure and decide which learning opportunity you want to explore.
- Select a convenient Learning Centre you wish to study at.
- Review the registration requirements.
- Only register if you meet the minimum requirements.

Please take note of the dates below as no exceptions will be made for late or incomplete applications. There is only one intake per year for these programmes.

Diploma in Emergency Medical Care
This programme runs over a period of 2 years and will equip graduates with skills to render lifesaving emergency care to critically ill or injured patients. Graduates will exit with an Advanced Life Support qualification and able to register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Paramedic.

Registration closes: 30 June
Course commences: January
Diploma in Nursing
This programme runs over a period of 3 years and leads to registration in the category General Nurse (GN R.171 of 8 March 2013). The Registered General Nurse with the qualification Diploma in Nursing will have the necessary knowledge and skills to render nursing care to patients with a wide range of conditions in a variety of healthcare settings and manage a nursing unit.

Course commences: January
Higher Certificate in Nursing
This programme runs over a period of 1 year and will lead to registration in the category Auxiliary Nurse (GN R.169 of 8 March 2013). The Registered Auxiliary Nurse with the qualification Higher Certificate in Nursing will have the necessary knowledge and skills to function in a wide variety of healthcare settings, provide basic care to patients and provide a supportive function to general nurses, professional nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Higher Certificate in Diagnostic and Procedural Coding
The Higher Certificate in Diagnostic and Procedural Coding is accredited by the Council on Higher Education and registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training. This programme runs over a period of 1 year and will equip graduates with the necessary the foundational skills, knowledge, attributes and applied competencies to enable them to render a service as a Clinical Coder in the Healthcare industry.

Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care
The Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care is accredited by the Council on Higher Education, the Health Professions Council of South Africa and registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training. This programme runs over a period of 1 year and will equip graduates to provide emergency medical care within the Emergency Care Assistant scope of practice within a wide range of emergency medical service environment settings. Graduates are able to register with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Assistant.

Short Courses
Short Courses
These courses are available to students that already have a qualification / diploma and that are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa or South African Nursing Council and offer further development in specialised areas. If you do not have an undergraduate qualification like this yet, take a look at our Diploma and Certificate level qualifications.
Mediclinic offers a number of short courses that run over a 4, 6 or 10 month period. These course include a substantial practical component, which ensures that students are fully prepared and competent to start working in the specialized area covered by the course.
