Do formal courses allow distance learning?
No, formal courses are contact based programmes located at specific learning centres across the country. Check the programme prospectus to confirm available locations. Emergency Medical Care programmes are only available at the learning centre in Bellville, Cape Town.
Can I enrol in the programme part time?
Not for the clinical programmes, all of our clinical programmes are full-time programmes, no part-time options are available at the moment.
You can apply to do the Advanced Diploma in Health Services Management & Leadership which is considered a part time programme over two years.
Is there a bridging course available if I don’t meet the GR12 requirements to apply for this course?
Not at Mediclinic.
What is included in my fees?
The fees include tuition, a uniform, and textbooks. Candidates are responsible for their own transport and accommodation
Will I need my own transport while studying at Mediclinic?
Yes, over and above travel to and from the campus students are required to travel to the various clinical learning sites and may be required to travel at odd hours when public transport is not always readily available.
Is the programme a learnership?
The programmes are not all learnership programmes.
Can I apply for access to the programme via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?
Candidates may apply for access via RPL but should note that only 10% of the intake can consist of RPL candidates. This limits the opportunities for candidates seeking access via RPL. Candidates are advised to consider re-completing their Matric subjects in order to meet the entrance requirements, at their own cost.
I am already a Basic Ambulance Assistant, Ambulance Emergency Assistant, or Critical Care Assistant can I obtain credits for any modules or years of study?
No, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as it pertains to credit accumulation and transfer only applies to candidates that have a qualification aligned to the National Qualifications Framework.
Fees and Funding Model
The fees are revised annually and are available on our website under the Programmes/Courses information. The fees are required to be paid in instalments as indicated upon enrolment and no allowances are made for late payments.
Will I be able to work part-time while doing the course?
Not for the clinical programmes, these are fulltime programmes and students are required to do clinical training when not at the learning centre.
Are there bursaries available?
Limited bursaries are made available each year and are offered to successful candidates during the selection process.
Upon completion of the qualification will I be required to enter an internship or work-back period?
The programmes include the “internship” portion of the qualification. Candidates who fund their own studies are not required to engage in a work-back period upon completion of the programme. Students awarded a bursary are required to work back based on the terms of their bursary agreement.
Does the programme include practical hours?
Yes, students engage in both classroom based learning and work-integrated learning at various clinical facilities. The work integrated learning can only be arranged at designated clinical sites and students cannot be accommodated at alternative sites.

Please apply for only one location and one programme.
Is it required for all applicants to attach a South African Qualifications Authority letter?
No, only if you obtained your Grade 12 certificate or senior certificate outside of South Africa.
What does 'citizenship' mean?
If you were not born in South Africa, this means that you are a regarded as a foreigner. You will have to apply for citizenship at the Department of Home Affairs to receive a South African identity number.
What do I do if I receive error messages?
Ensure that all required fields have been completed and are in the correct format.
How do I make the registration payment? How much is it?
Banking details and the amount required will only be sent to qualifying applicants after the applications have been processed. Payment needs to be made and uploaded to the candidate profile before the closing date once instructions have been received.
Will Mediclinic call me to inform me of the psychometric assessment date?
No, you will only be invited via e-mail. Please regularly review your status and go through your emails.
Short Courses, in house and fundamental courses FAQs
Do short courses allow distance learning?
The courses are based on the principles of outcome based self-study with contact sessions and demands self-study with limited contact. Students must have suitable mentors for the clinical component of the courses which have specific clinical outcomes.
Can I enrol in a short course part time?
No, short courses are only available to students that are able to work a 36 hour work week. Students must be working in a relevant clinical placement area for the duration of the course.
What is included in my fees?
The fees include tuition and textbooks.
What is the cost of the programme and can I request a payment arrangement?
The fees are revised annually and are available on our website under the Programmes/Courses information. Full payment for short courses must be done before the course starts.
Will I be able to work part-time while doing the course?
Yes, one of the requirements of the course if for students to work at least a 36 hour week.
Are there bursaries available?
No bursaries are provided to applicants for short courses that are not employed by Mediclinic.

I am not a Mediclinic employee, but I am already registered at the South African Nursing Council. Can I still apply?
Learning opportunities for short courses are open to students not employed by Mediclinic as long as they are registered at the South African Nursing Council.
