Genetic Health Clinic process
The Genetic Health Clinic offers access to quality genetic health advice in a convenient and affordable manner.
Consultations with the Genetic Health Clinic are self-funded and reimbursable based on your medical insurance policy. Our current rate is R 2,200 and is payable using our online portal.
Access to the Genetic Health Clinic is easy and is based on a step-by-step process to gather and interpret health information about you and your family. The key steps are.

What you will NEED TO PROVIDE for the consultation:
- A detailed family medical history. - We will aid this process by providing easy-to-use forms. The more information you provide, the more informative and detailed the consultation and recommendations will be.
- Your Consent. - Consent will be requested to ensure your Confidentiality and Privacy and to record your decision to participate in the consulting process.
This information is reviewed by one of our specialists in preparation of the consultation. A bespoke consultant will be allocated based on your specific needs.
INCLUDED in the consulting session is:
- A thorough, 60-minute engagement with a specialist medical geneticists or a genetic counsellor or clinical pharmacologist (depending on your specific need)
- An introduction to genetics, disease heritability, and its influence on your health (details depending on your needs)
- As applicable, your family health history will be summarised in a pedigree or family tree by your genetics specialist. This will highlight potential health risks
AFTER the consultation, you will receive:
- By email a genetic health report summarising your health history and any associated health risks, details depending on the information you provided
- A care plan including further interventions, as appropriate.
- Advice regarding further testing as indicated by the health risk analysis
- Access and referral to other specialists, as applicable:
- Health coaches
- General practitioner(s)
- Medical specialists(s)
- Genetic testing (PRECISE)
NOTE: Follow-up consults and tests may be offered at a special rate or in bundles. Your consultant will discuss options at the end of your engagement.
EXCLUDED is:
- Genetic and other tests (e.g. blood tests or diagnostic images)
- Cost of other consultations, including genetic counselling required for specific genetic tests.
- Any other consultations
